The degrees of comparison: 1) the positive degree; 2) the comparative degree; 3) the superlative degree
1) tambahkan er untuk t. lebih dan est untuk t. paling
Tall- taller-tallest
Short, old, young, strong, weak, high, low, etc.
Tambahkan r dan st saja untuk yang berakhiran e.
White, wide, pale, large, safe, brave
2) Dobelkan huruf akhirnya bila berakhir bunyi tajam
Fat, thin, hot, sad, glad, wet, etc
3) Ubah akhiran y menjadi I bila didepannya huruf mati
Happy- happier- happiest
Easy, pretty, heavy, lazy, naughty, crazy, etc.
Tetapkan y bila di depannya ada huruf hidup
Grey-greyer-greyest
Gay
4) Dahulukan more dan most untuk lebih dari satu suku kata
Beautiful- more beautiful- most beautiful
Interesting, dangerous, famous, expensive, careful, etc.
Kecuali: noble, clever, bitter, narrow, shallow, handsome, stupid, polite, pleasant, quiet, tambahkan er dan est.
5) tak beraturan
Good well- better-best
Many much-more-most
Far-farther-farthest
Bad sick-worse-worst
Old-older-oldest
Elder-eldest
Penggunaannya:
1) se… seperti….= as…t. biasa… as
Father is as old as mother
2) tak se… seperti… = not so ….t. biasa…. As
Jacky isn’t so pretty as Jane
3) Lebih… daripada= t. biasa than
Jane is prettier than Jacky
English is more difficult than Javanese
Which is better: Surabaya or Malang?
Surabaya is better than Malang
Which is better: SMP 1 or SMP 2?
SMP 1 is better than SMP 2
4) paling….= the t.paling
You are the biggest member here
Rose is the most beautiful flower
5) makin lama makin…= get/ become t. lebih and t. lebih
We must become cleverer and cleverer
Madiun becomes more and more beautiful
6) sama…. Nya- the same kata benda
The same age/ size/ height/ price; the same color/ shape/ weight/ length
7) makin…. Makin…= t. lebih, t. lebih
The sooner you come, the better
The older, the weaker
