A. The physical examination
The physical examintaion usually requires some of the following equipment: thermometer, stethoscope, sphygmomanometer, visual acuity chart, scale.
B. Types of thermometer
To measure the patient’s body temperature there are several types of thermometers: glass mercury, chemical dot, digital, electronic digital, and infrared. Each type provides accurate reading when used properly, example: glass-mercury thermometer, rectal thermometer, chemical dot thermometer, digital thermometer, electronic digital thermometer, infrared thermometer.
C. Fahrenheit and centigrade (celcius) temperatures
In Indonesia people are more familiar with (celcius) thermometer than Farenheit. It is necessary for the nurse to be familiar with both the centigrade and the Fahrenheit scale. Here are some of the main points about centigrade and fahrenheit thermometers.
Centigrade and fahrenheit thermometers look a like.
1. Both are made of the same-sized tube containing mercury.
2. The column of mercury in each thermometer rises to the same height when placed in a beaker of freezing. Water and to the same height in boiling water.
3. The centigrade and fahrenheit thermometers differ from each other in the way they are graduated.

E. Converte in Fahreinheit or Centigrade

2. Take the following temperatures with centigrade clinical thermometers: Mr. D 37 degree Celcius; Mrs. E 37,8 degree Celcius; Miss F 38 degree Celcius. But the physician asks what the Fahrenheit temperature is for each patient. Convert the centigrade to Fahrenheit.
a. Physician : What is Mr. D (Mrs. E, Miss F)’s temperature in Fahrenheit?
b. Nurses (32) : Mr. D (Mrs. E. Miss F)’s temperature is: Mr. D temperature is 98,6 degree Fahrenheit, Mr. E, temperature is 68 degree Fahrenheit; Mrs. F, temperature is 68,4 degree Celcius.
F. Note:
1. To save time and to avoid possibility of error in doing problems, many hospitaly today have conversion tables available on the wards. The nurse simply referes to the particular temperature on one scale and finds the conversion listed in a column beside it. But if not, you are able to do the conversions, aren’t you?
2. Most larger hospitals currently use electronic thermometers which give centigrade readings or Fahrenheit readings.

Di Indonesia , orang lebih akrab dengan ( oksida ) dari Farenheit termometer . Hal ini diperlukan untuk Kesehatan untuk menjadi akrab dengan kedua Celcius dan Skala Fahrenheit . Berikut adalah beberapa poin utama tentang termometer celcius dan fahrenheit .
